On Sunday 10th April, Friends of Sandy Creek Conservation Park were
proud to launch Barry Hutchins' booklet, 'A Study of the Birds of
Sandy Creek Conservation Park & the Old Barossa Gold-fields from
1966 to 1993' at the Youth Hostel in Sandy Creek Conservation Park.
Barry, a well-regarded ornithologist, is the patron of the Friends
of Sandy Creek Conservation Park and a prominent supporter of the
Park.
The booklet is the result of his many years of scientific observations and banding of birds in the area and provides a benchmark for monitoring and studying the birds of the region. It contains information about bird species, longevity, breeding habits, movement between banding sites and fluctuations in populations.

It also discusses the unfortunate decline of bird species and their habitats in Sandy Creek Conservation Park, the Old Barossa Goldfields and surrounding areas. It makes important reading for bird-watchers and conservationists, and is available for download here. |
