Fred and Shirley Lake provided the information that 'Bill' was born in England, his mother married a second time, moved to Canada and subsequently left him with his Grandparents who raised him. [This may not be strictly as Shirley told it but the essence is correct.] He was a (unknown occupation ) in CANADA. He was a miner in Broken Hill NSW from about 1930 to 1935. Between 1930 and 1966 Bill was a Miner, Transport Operator, Bus Driver, Fruit Grower, Shop owner. in Broken Hill NSW & Mildura Vic. Spouse: Eileen NIEMANN (LAKE)-64. Eileen NIEMANN (LAKE) and William Frederick "Bill" LAKE were married on 1 December 1928.1029,1035,1036 I had a long association with Aunty Eileen & Uncle Bill Lake. My first memories were of them on a fruit block at Merbein. Their two sons Bill & Fred were my heroes and I loved to get in the road while the boys fixed their trucks.
However, at about age ten I stayed with them at their shop at South Merbein. It was great fun serving in the shop and doing deliveries around the district. I ate lollies from daylight till dusk and still regret that I pinched the odd packet of cigarettes which I smoked down the road a bit. I guess they knew.
When our family lived in Wentworth and between businesses they lived with us for a time. Uncle Bill was quite ill.
Uncle Bill was a quietly spoken, tall and somewhat imposing figure but generous 'to a fault'. He loved to sit and talk and told me many stories about fishing and duck shooting around Sunraysia. I cannot recall hime talking about his early life but it was something of an adventure and at least from a family history viewpoint very interesting.

In latter years we always called on Aunty Eileen and sometimes stayed with her. She too visited us when she headed to Adelaide.
Aunty Eileen became a successful dress shop owner [Mimi Fashions, Langtee Ave Mildura) and while I was at school in Mildura I'd call at the shop and have a cup of tea.
Family was really important to Aunty Eileen and she provided a lot of the information regarding our immediate family, for the Niemann history book.
Aunty Eileen was always a 'strong' woman and didn't hesitate to express her opinion. Unfortunately in the early stages of her memory deterioration and illnesses her 'strength' caused a few family upsets. At the time however I don't really think it was understood the reasons for this. I have no difficulty 'winding back the tape' and remembering her as somebody with whom I always felt very comfortable. This made it even more distressing when she didn't even recognize me when I visited her in hospital.

Sarah Ann Faulks LAMB (JENKINSON) was born about 1820 in UK - possibly.838 She is ASSUMED ( a calculated guess), to have died before 1920 in Melbourne Vic - possibly

Spouse: Richard Napoleon JENKINSON-1650. Sarah Ann Faulks LAMB (JENKINSON) and Richard Napoleon JENKINSON were married about 1840. Provided by Greg Jenkinson:
Richard Napoleon JENKINSON: born abt 1819 in Tottenham, London, ENGLAND died 21 Sep 1860 at Greek's Reef, Inglewood, Victoria, AUSTRALIA buried in White Hills Cemetery, Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria, AUSTRALIA married Sarah Ann Faulkes LAMB on 30 Sep 1844 in St John's Catholic Church, Richmond, Tasmania, AUST.

Sarah Ann Faulkes LAMB : born 22 Jan 1826 in Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND died 10 Feb 1898 in Pascoe Vale, Coburg, Victoria, AUSTRALIA buried in Melbourne Cemetery on 12 Feb 1898 Children include: Charlotte Mary JENKINSON: born abt 1845 in Jerusalem (Colebrook), Tasmania, AUSTRALIA died 8 Apr 1898 in Daisy St Essendon, Victoria, AUSTRALIA Buried on 9 Apr 1898 in Melbourne General Cemetery
married Christian NIEMANN
Richard JENKINSON was transported to Van Diemen's Land aboard the "Canton", arriving on 12 Jan 1840. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation for larceny. His heinous crime was that of selling a stolen cricket ball which had been taken from a change room of a boarding school in London, and had been stolen by another perpetrator. 4 young men in total were involved in the "heist".

Richard JENKINSON later became a constable in Van Diemen's Land.

In 1851 Richard & Sarah JENKINSON & 5 children left Launceston for Sydney. They eventually made their way to Bendigo goldfields in Victoria, AUSTRALIA by 1852, possibly earlier.

Richard JENKINSON was found dead in his tent at a Greek's Reef gold mining tenement in Inglewood, with a muzzle-loading weapon nearby. He was 40 years old.

Richard & Sarah's 2 surviving sons, John Napoleon JENKINSON & Richard Napoleon JENKINSON (Jr) made their ways to opposite sides of Australia. There is some conjecture about who was the real John Napoleon JENKINSON because records show that one John Napoleon JENKINSON went west to Kalgoorlie in 1899 with wife & 4 sons (some with their own families in tow), while the "other" John Napoleon JENKINSON went east to Queensland , where he married in 1880.

As a representative of the WEST clan and with a lot of documentary evidence as well as graveyard images, I have been able to convince some of the EAST clan that my JNJ is the rightfull owner of the name. The EASTERN JNJ is probably Richard Napoleon JENKINSON (Jr) but this has confused a lot of ancestors in the EAST. I am still "negotiating" with some of them.

I recently found that Sarah Ann Faulkes LAMB'S father, uncle & some cousins are buried in Colebrook, Tasmania.

Elizabeth Jane LANGMAID / LANGMEAD (DORMAN)(TRIPLETT)1043 was also known as Elizabeth Jane Langmead in 1856. She was born on 14 November 1856 in Burra SA - Logan Flat. In 1883 she was a Mangle woman - Domestic in Moonta SA. For those too young to know a Mangle was a hand turned machine used to wring the water from clothes after washing and before they were put on the clothes line for drying. It generally consisted of two rollers. The clothes were 'fed' through the rollers by turning the handle. It is assumed that a 'Mangle woman' was in fact a 'washer woman' who washed clothes for families as a means of earning an income.
It was not a good idea to get fingers in the Mangle and thus a common phrase for a car or bicycle accident was a 'mangle' and the damaged car or bicycle was often described as a 'Mangle' (wreckage).

Spouse: John DORMAN-129. Elizabeth Jane LANGMAID / LANGMEAD (DORMAN)(TRIPLETT) and John DORMAN were married on 19 May 1873 in Moonta SA.337,338 Their Marriage certificate confirms most of the following information :
'When Elizabeth was 18 she married at the home of her parents Edwin & Elizabeth Langmead at Euko. The witnesses at the ceremony were her sister Emma ... and James Thomas' , thought to be Emma's future husband.
Life was challenging in Moonta during the 1880's. Many families were not so fortunate as the Dormans when looking at the infant death statistics for Moonta. As an example 153 children under the age of 1 year, were buried at Moonta in 1874. It did not get much better until 1878 and even then 133 died. By todays standards the figures were unacceptably high until 1910.

According to Legend ... Lil Russell nee Niemann, told Aileen Niemann (nee Keatch), many years ago that Elizabeth Jane Triplett or 'Granny Triplett' as she was affectionately known, had six children to John Dorman; she then married James Triplett who already had six children and they had six of their own. Lil Russell (nee Niemann) also told Aileen that Maria Triplett 'married a chinaman' in Adelaide, not something the family was proud of in those days. However the legend has it that the 'Chinaman' was Pak Poy who went on to become a highly respected and successful businessman in Adelaide.
Les Niemann in 2004, provided the six names for the Dorman children although he wasn't 100% certain regarding the details. He thought one Dorman child was killed by a water cart near the old Flying Doctor base east of Broken Hill. (But it has been suggested that the horse drowned not the child !! )
